With the help of local Chin community in Waterloo region of Ontario and generous donors from friends, Chin Community of Canada successfully held fundraising programme on October 05, 2024. We are very honoured to welcome the Honourable Tim Louis who is an incumbent Federal Member of Parliament, Gord Martin who is founder and former Executive Director of Vision Ministry Canada, Norm Dyke who is mission director of Mennonite Eastern Church Canada (MCEC) and Rev. Dave Rogalsky and hi wife Annemary Rogalsky as guest speakers and opening prayer.

The event basically focused on bringing hand-on political awareness to Chin youth in Canada. Kim and Mawi who are both youth department leaders of Chin Community Canada recently visited borders of India and Myanmar where they met several Chin refugees and international displaced people (IDPs) and brought back their practical experiences, interviews, video clips and several photos which they showed during the event by power point.

Since the military coup in 2021, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates more than 50,000 Chin refugees have fled to India and 85% of them stuck in Mizoram state, India which the closest border state of India from Myanmar. More than 80,00 Chin refugees are in Manipur state and over 50,00 have presented themselves for asylum registration in New Delhi, India. There are approximately 40,000 to 45,000 Chin refugees and asylum seekers by June 2024 although almost half them presented themselves for registration with UNHCR in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This is the first time the Chin Community Canada has held fundraising event for victims of war in Chinland, Myanmar.
